Hmm,  I think the Christians would prefer to choose biblical names, for not only admitting their religious and spiritual meaning, but also turns into a sort of “blessing” for the newly born. Even the Bible says in Proverbs 22:1 "A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches.

As known, The first few books of the Old Testament are rich in names of individuals, characters and events that established the roots of Christianity in places such as Israel and Egypt.

In fact, after the Reformation, in the 16th and 17th centuries, Old Testament baby names has boomed in popularity. The reason was that people turned against the Catholic Church and parents stopped giving their children Christian names.

Jacob – means  'holder of the heel' as he came out holding Esau's heel. He was the younger twin son of Isaac.

Jesse – means 'God's gift’. He was the father of King David.

Jonathan - means “God Gave". In the bible, Jonathan was the son of King Saul. Jonathan has shown his solidarity to David and become the true friend of David.

Joel – means 'the Lord is God'. He was a minor prophet in the Old Testament.

Jonah – means 'a man of peace'. He was the runaway prophet who has warned the people of Ninevah about God's anger and coming judgment.

Joseph – means 'God will increase'. He was the favored son of Jacob. Another was Jesus' adopted father.

Joshua - means 'God is salvation'. He has led the Israelites into the Promised Land.

Micah – means  'humble'. He was a minor prophet in the Old Testament.

Michael – means 'like the Lord'. He is one of the archangels of the Lord.

Nathan – means 'gift of God'. was the prophet who gave King David God's message.

Samuel - means "Heard by God." The biblican Samuel was a great prophet in the Old Testament and dedicated his whole life to the Lord.

Solomon
– He was King David’s son. He was well known by for his wisdom so that’s perhaps why some of the parents want to use this name to baptize their babies just because this name represents a person with great judgment, great wisdom and also great power.

Seth – means 'the appointed one'. He was the third son of Adam and Eve. 

Zacharias – means 'remembered by the Lord'. He was John the Baptist's father.

As you can see, there’s quite an excessively selection of biblical baby names. Biblical baby names from the Old Testament are a part of the culture & history. These names and their meanings contains world history and go back far beyond recorded history.
