Picking the muslim name? Don’t take it before you read this!

If you are muslim, baby names certainly are considered to be important to convey the religious beliefs in the names of their children.

It is an obligation upon the parents that their child be given a good name. Some hadeeth lead to a clue that the child is to be named on the seventh day,  and should be get along with Aqeeqah (shaving of the head and animal sacrifice).

The Prophet was given a lead to name children on the day of their birth, as proven in the narrations. It is suggested to name the child before the seventh day. If the baby doesn’t have the name on7th day, then the naming should be done on the 7th day at the latest.

Below are the basic guides on choosing Muslim or Islamic names for your baby:

1. It is never suggested to use name Allah for your baby. Allah’s name can be used to be a part of a longer name. What about the prophet? Hmm, Prophets’ names  are always a good reference in the manner that reflects servitude to Allah.

2. When observing the names, explore the deeper meaning of it. Put deep thought on what it symbolizes. It is recommended to put your wishes along with the meaning of the names..

3. Honoring someone through the name is considered a good reference too. Naming a child after his father is always a wonderful source.
Early ancestors who shared a lot of good deed along the life should be a good  reference. The newer generation can carry their ancestor’s names and the deeds into the baby’s name.

4. Inserting names like 'Abdullah' and 'Abdurrahman'should be great for baby names. But It is forbidden to use Abdul (meaning 'slave of') to any other names except for the 99 names of Allah and Abdullah (meaning 'slave of Allah'). Consider also to use 'Harits' and 'Hammam'.

5. It is not recommended for you to use the name of 'Harb' and 'Murrah'. The name like 'Barrah' is forbidden as Muslim baby name.

6. It is prohibited to use boy's names for a girl, and vice versa. You should give the names suit to the gender.

7. In searching the best names, avoid names with  improper meanings or no meaning at all.  Using the names of bad rulers like Fir'aun, Hamman is not suggested.

Taking devil names or even angels can not be used as reference.

The names of disgusting animal like pig, names that are opposite to all goodness is not suggested for your baby names.

It is not recommended to use non-Muslim's names.

8. It is advised not to use a very long names. It will harden people to remember it. After you choose it, try to spell it. Is it pronounce easily by others? Does it pronounce the same way as in Arabic so that it wouldn't change the meaning of the word?

Choosing Muslim baby names doesn't have to be difficult! Take the time to discuss the name with muslim friend, family, and also your religious leaders. Learning about many figures, their deeds, and share the meaning in your baby’s name. Don’t get stress, have fun in searching it, my friend..
